• Work toward a statewide stocking program.
• Make flounder conservation a true priority in Texas.
• Recognize top flounder anglers and those working on the specie's behalf.
• See flounder ascend to the level of speckled trout and redfish in terms of respect and funding at state level.
• Raise awareness to the sporting potential of the southern flounder.
• Educate anglers on ways to catch more flounder on artificial lures.
• Raise funds for flounder research.
• Promote voluntary catch and release of big flounder.

 

What is this fish and why should you care?

It's an obscure cousin of the walleye only found in Lake Meredith in the Panhandle in Texas. They are a gamefish in the Lone Star State and flounder are not. While one of the state's most popular fish (flounder) have been declining, sauger have been protected from commerical harveest and are eligible for federal fisheries funding.
